question: just about everyone was happy to see osama go. some people even celebrated with booze and partying as if their favorite sports team won a shiny trophy. so i’m wondering, is there ever a time to celebrate a human being’s death? their departure into eternal judgment, or the eternal black ether, depending upon your spiritual worldview. and that leads to another question. for those opposed to capital punishment, is this a special circumstance? is this an instance where whatever rationalization you have against capital punishment is trumped?
feel free to start a flame war, as these discussions inevitably end up going down that road anyway, but here’s my take: osama was an evil creep. the world is probably better now that he’s gone. but i don’t feel entirely comfortable celebrating his demise. that’s how the enemy of our country reacts to death. and i’m not a big capital punishment proponent either, so i’m even more leery about making it a national holiday. granted, this isn’t your average capital punishment, but the strands of logic behind my uncertainty for its use in the first place still exist. i’d like to know how others are reacting and their justification for it. flame on!
